Starting to read a lot about some businesses in Japan introducing dual pricing , i.e. higher prices for foreigners as a response to massively increased tourist number as result of the dramatic drop in the Yen against most major currencies. Japanese friends and our Australian family have all commented on this. Has anyone experienced this?

We are considering a return to Japan next year and di look at one or two hotel rates on booking.com and they did seem high compared with what I was expecting. I am wondering whether rates via booking engines are automatically being hiked already. I have also heard of people booking directly and when inputing there residency , hotels coming back with higher rates.

Anyone had any experiences?

Japanese hotel rates are generally higher in 2024 than in 2023.

Whether the rates on booking.com are higher than the hotel's website is case-by-case. I always compare them and choose to book with the one that gives me a better value.

For the hotels that I booked this April for my October stay, I found that if I were to book now (August) for the same October dates, the rates would be higher than when I booked in April.

I am of course aware that hotel rates vary from month to month and year to year. My question was whether anyone had any knowledge or experience of Japan or individual businesses, introducing a system of dual pricing for foreign tourists. There has been a lot of press comment recently.

I only know what I read in above article....other tourist crowded places around the world are considering various plans, I think. Doesn't Venice charge some type of tourist tax?
