India in August

My friends and I (in our mid 20s) are thinking of going to India in August to visit the "golden triangle" - agra, jaipur, and dehli. Is this just a ridiculous idea because of the weather? Is the heat unbearable? Can anyone recommend some good escorted tour operators that included airfare from the U.S.? Thank you so much.

August is the middle of the monsoon season in India which means that it will be both hot AND humid. Having just been there when the weather is pleasant, I can not imagine being there when it is not. If you do go however, your costs will be much lower than when the weather is pleasant. I suggest you purchase your airfare separately in the US and use an India-based tour operator such as Compass Tours. Contact Durjay Sengupta at [email protected]
We were very satisfied with their services.

If you can handle mid 90's in both temp. and humidity then go for it. IMHO visiting from mid Nov. thru the end of Feb. is alot better. We just returned form there feb. 11 BTW and we have been in Delhi once during the month of August. It has hot then when we landed at 0100!

Message: Agree with all the posts. The humidity is almost unbearable. A good time to go is January when you can get some good deals on airfares and hotels as everyone has spent their money on Xmas!! Book your flight and tour separately. You should be able to get your tour for at least 50% less than what you will pay in the US. Try Tour India we have always had success with them.

Late October may be a better idea. It begins to get cooler and you will also beat the rush season that starts in Nov.

It will be HOT plus your road transfers could be very slow some days when it rains a lot. Take a look at www.siddharthtravels.com.
