Hello everyone. I'll be going to Hanoi, Vietnam, this year. It will be my first time. Are there scammers, and what should I do to prevent getting scammed?

Same travel safety tips as anywhere...
When a really nice stranger comes up to you on the street, and offers to take you to their brother's/friends/sister's shop, tea shop or tour company, don't go.
Don't let a taxi tell you their meter is broken. Also, if a taxi driver says your hotel or restaurant has gone out of business or burned down, but they have a better place to take you, get out.
Don't buy currency from out side a bank or ATM.
If you are shopping for jewelry, go only to reputable shops. Even if they look nice, remember that "all that glitters is NOT gold."
Have fun, and don't let your brain go on vacation!

How many days? What places do you plan to visit?

Don’t trust strangers, and don’t eat or drink anything given to you by someone you don’t know. Try not to go out alone, and make sure to keep your wallet and important documents safe.

Honestly, every popular destination has some level of scams, and Hanoi is no different. But it shouldn’t stop you from going.

It’s more about being prepared than being worried.

City safety in Vietnam is generally fine. Just avoid quiet, out-of-the-way areas and keep an eye on your bag and wallet, and you’ll be okay.
