well, I spent a week there almost 10 years ago. Why? had booked a train ticket from Ahmedabad to Cochin - a very long journey - and then discovered you could break the journey for x days if the y formula applied.
I enjoyed my stay - and I did keep a trip diary but unfortunately do not have it with me now. There are some tombs, and a fort you can visit outside the city. I ate some of the best food of my whole (6mth) trip in the basement restaurant of the hotel where I stayed, and met some interesting folk too.
I just wandered - I had loads of time - as having got off the train I couldn't get on another one on that particular line for a week.
I don't suppose it would be high up on anyone's list of places you must see. But that is sometimes the kind of place you remember most.

Sorry for butting in on your thread, neeza, but Alice13 and I have crossed paths before, and I am interested in what she has to say. Alice, we're going to Hyderabad too-- we'll have two nights there in November. Do you have any good hotel recommendations? As before, we're after budget choices... not at all interested in the "star" ratings.
