HUA HIN HYATT

there have been a number of questions about construction at the hyatt and i will address them below...

we arrived at the hyatt in HH 3 days ago....we took the van from the bkk hyatt (500B per person)...it was fantastic...it is a new large toyota van holding maybe 9 people...we were the only passengers...it leaves bkk daily at 10AM and returns from HH daily at 2PM....

we had visited the HH property when it first opened and were amazed by its size...that shrinks a bit when you are staying there however....it is a very nice operation however....basically the hotel has 3 sections: the regular hotel area and rooms, the regency club lounge and rooms and the new spa, still under construction--more about this..

the restaurants are all very nice serving both western and thai dishes....amazingly the food is quite reasonable for hotel food and we have found the quality and food handling to be first class...

them main part of the hotel has a couple of interconnected pools, childrens areas and an interconnecting lagoon pool area, plus the largest "dragon" water slide i have ever seen--3 stories at least...the grounds are luch with tropical plantings that have adapted well to the local as the hotel is about 5 years old....they tend it all very well..

our first room (
#1230) was a FF award room from hyatt for two nites....it was very nice, comfortable, on the second floor and thus had a large balcony with a table and two very comfortable arm chairs....the bath was nice with a semi-seperate w/c, a shower stall and a large tub, one sink....
the lighting in the room could have been better as could the minimum room temp (could not get it below about 22C)..

the view was directly out on the elephant fountain--the major site of the hotel, and a fish pond....the ocean could been seen through the trees....we thought the room perfect....it was steps to the lagoon pool area...

after two nites we moved to the club section which i booked directly with hyatt at about $190 per nite...

much to my amazement, the room we were taken to was a tad smaller and exactly the same as the regular room....the difference was one less nite stand and construction just on the other side of the door...

WARNING: BE AWARE THAT CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES AND IT IS SOMEWHAT NOISY UNTIL ABOUR 8:30 PM....we changed rooms immediatel...they put us in a ground floor room, which instead of a balcony has that area enclosed as part of your room with a sofa and two upholstered large square stools....we look out on a mini fountain and a large fish pond and the ocean is clearly seen in the distance...

the pool and the club lounge we nearby...

this morning we met up with nicky, smegol from fodors and her boy friend....this was prearranged....they had the same noise situation as us and moved this AM to our building...

so beware the construction continues....

the hotel over all is excellent as is the staff....the food is reasonable and good...

transportation is not good however....they want you to use the hotel limo at 250B min per trip or the hourly shuttle bus at 50B per son

tuk tuks are not allowed on the property unless they are delivering someone, so you have to walk about 5 minutes to the main road to get one...they have no good system to call one....it is 100B into town which is double the last time we were here (5 years ago)..

so for this reason i find transportation difficult...

for instance the four of us are going to supatra for dinner tonight and have had to book the limo for 250B each way...ugh!!

we will take the van back to bkk tomorrow afternoon in order to arrange the arrival of the giant panda....

Thank you for the detailed report. We have been wondering whether we would take the time to visit Hua Hin sometime. Anxious to hear if, on balance, you think it a worthy destination.

Happy reunion with the Panda and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you taking the holiday in a sunny paradise. May it sweeten your enjoymnt to hear that on this New England morning, the temperature was at 31 F -- frost on the windshield, mums ready for discard -- and it is scheduled to go down to the 20s tonight alas. Bask in the warmth and enjoy!

I was wondering if you have been to Koh Samui. If so, how does Hua Hin compare?
