Im planig now to travel to India as backpacker for month and half..staying in hostel or some cheapest places..and i would like to know how much money it will be enough for it? i will be grateful guys if u can help me ..Thanks so much !

Have you posted this question on lonelyplanet.com ? Go to the Thorn Tree & then to the Indian Subcontinent. I imagine you will get a lot more people there who can really help with your question.

Whatever you think you need, bring more for the unexpected.

Also, if you're backpacking, staying in cheap places and carrying cash, take precautions that it doesn't get stolen. Don't keep it all in one place and don't let others know you have cash on you.

Jaya's advice is really good advice.

Keep money in separate locations. Wear a money belt.

do people use travellers' cheques any more? If so, convert your money to TC and cash them in the big cities.

Also have small locks for your backpack.

jules39's suggestion of lonelyplanet is excellent. Lots more backpackers there than here on Fodors.
