Hi. I'm traveling to Japan for the first time in may with my mom, and sister.

I'm looking for hotels that will accommodate 3 adults in the same room. Pictures on many western hotel websites show what looks like 2 double beds in a room but descriptions indicate that they are twin beds. Are they really twin beds? Does anyone have any suggestions of hotels to stay at in Tokyo or Kyoto that can accommodate 3 small women? Even a king size bed would be fine for the 3 of us.

Yes the twin beds are really twin beds and the room size in Japan is smaller in average than those in the West. Some Japanese hotels won't take 3 people but you will find those who will.

What is your budget for hotel rooms? There are rooms in Tokyo and Kyoto that run the scale from 1 to 5 star.....depends on your budget.

Oakwood. It's an international chain of business apartments and usually rents for 30-day minimums. But in Asia, Oakwood routinely rents the apartments for as little as three nights. We had an Oakwood by Shinjuku in Tokyo. The apartment was miniscule but immaculate and had everything we needed. Cost = about $170/night or less. And the dollar was only worth about 3-5 more yen last year so the exchange is roughly the same.

There should be at least one in Kyoto, there are a bunch in Tokyo.

Don't bother to look for King size! Even Queen size is hard to come by in Japan. DH is a big guy and we always have problems finding large beds unless we stay in a more luxury type hotel. The Oakwood sounds like a great idea.

You could also look into ryokan which can accomodate 3 adults in traditional sleeping- futons on the tatami matt floors. We did this recently and loved it.
