Hong Kong weather/July-August

Have viewed weather sites, and it appears that
this period is very hot/wet. Don't mind the heat,
but don't want to get caught in hurricane/
monsoon season. Last two trips to H.K. were in
November, but only free time is late July/Aug.
for long delayed college grad trip with daughter.
We will go to Bali after H.K., and have confirmed
through this forum that July/August is very nice in
Bali, so we are going to "split the difference" in weather, so to speak. Other than the heat, is there
anything particularly difficult/risky with visiting H.K. at this time. Really want to do both. Thanks!

It will be pretty hot and humid. No question about that.

Typhoon season is May to October. But like the hurricane here in the US, you don't get a direct hit every year; and even if you do, you can't know when.

Another thing is that because basically all structures in HK are modern concrete buildings, even if you get a direct hit, all that means is your stay in your hotel watching TV. Power doesn't go out, and no one needs to evacuate.

The only risk that I see is that it could rain for the entire vacation here, or you could be sitting in your hotel room for a day or two during a typhoon. As rkkwan has said, if a bad typhoon hits, the only thing that you would do is sit it out in your hotel. All electric lines are buried underground, so you never even lose power. It’s just that you could be there for 2 days if it’s a bad one. It also could rain for your entire visit (as it did for the handover in August 1997, about 4 solid days of heavy rain…). It’s also very humid. But if you accept those potential risks and are OK with really hot and really humid, it’s not that bad. You could also get beautiful and sunny (albeit very hot and humid) weather. There is certainly a lot to see and do and a young girl would have a lot of fun here.
