You may have difficutly in finding tours that only go to Hong Kong, as most organized tours include Hong Kong as part of other itineraries to China or Southeast Asia. In my personal opinion having lived in Hong Kong for 5 years, you do not need an escourted tour of Hong Kong. It is easily accessible on your own, language is not an issue, and there are many sources of advice and suggestions for what to do and see, including this site.

A good operator of high-end tours in Asia is Cox and Kings. They do not have a Hong Kong only itinerary, but may be able to create such a tour for you. Check their website.

Hong Kong can indeed be done on your own without difficulty, but if you wish to be picked up from your hotel and have to make no arrangements yourself, there are plenty of one-day and half-day tours available which you can book on arrival. Go to the HKTB (Hong Kong Tourism Board) desk, which you have to pass as you leave customs at the airport. The Board used to operate numerous tours itself, but has now farmed these out to private companies.

There are also some very talented English-speaking guides in Hong Kong with a first-class knowledge of history and culture, and (unlike in mainland China) keen to give you a realistic picture of the territory and its history, while knowing absolutely everywhere there is to go, and not dragging you into shops to get commission. Some of the best work under contract to the HKTB for looking after visiting VIPs when needed, but take on private clients.

I'd highly recommend Nevin Lim (no typing error there) whose business card I don't have to hand, but you should be able to find by contacting the HKTB in advance (have a look at the Discover Hong Kong Web site). He'll need to be booked.

Peter N-H
http://members.axion.net/~pnh/China.html
