Hong Kong Shanghai
Hello
I will be in Hong Kong on my own before meeting up with others on business trip for two days. I was there many years ago and saw the basic sights but wouldn't mind seeing again. Suggestions on a really good informed tour or tour guide with excellent english. Prefer to see sights but not a standard tourist tour with a factory to buy things at!
Also been told won't be able to access gmail and or google etc. Any current suggestions on a VPN that would work for iphone and ipad
Any ideas for Shanghai for one day at end where again will be on own Also saw many years ago but want an overview
Thanks so much

Tempting.

Visa-free, kind of. Only works if you can make it a transit and if you hold a qualifying passport.
VPN will not be necessary in HK but required in China if you want to access a banned site such a Google products or Facebook among others.
The must-see places in Shanghai would be the shanghai Museum, Yuyuan, Former French Concession and finish the day walking Nanjing east street (ignoring touts) making your way to the Bund.

I have taken other Fodorites around Hong Kong before. Let me know when you're here and I can check if I am available (usually free on Tuesday and Wednesday). You can buy me lunch and pay for my transportation. And you can tell me what's your interest - historical sites; new buildings; old village houses; whatever suits you.
My email is rkkwan (at) earthlink (dot) net. If you're interested.
