Hong Kong -- Kowloon Hotel or Harbour Plaza?
Hi,
My husband and I are leaving for Hong Kong in less than a week, but we can't decide which hotels to stay in. We are looking at Kowloon Hotel and Harbour Plaza. Have you been to either one of them or heard anything about them? Thanks much!
Carolyn

Welcome to Hong Kong. I suggest you to stay at Kowloon Hotel if you got similar price for the two hotels.

Kowloon Hotel is at the centre of Tsim Sha Shui, shopping center on the Kowloon side. MTR (underground) is right next to the hotel. 5-min walk to Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island. So convenient.

Harbour Plaza is at Hung Hom, far east of Tsim Sha Shui. Most tourist spots in Hong Kong are not assessible by foot, although the hotel may provide free shuttle bus to major ones. Overall, less convenient, but maybe more luxury than Kowloon Hotel.

My wife and I were in kawloon about 2 months ago and stayed at the Kowloon hotel. We ended up checking out after one night because we didn't like the hotel at all. We never spend a lot of time in hotels when we travel but we do like to have a clean room. The hotel as a whole is not very nice. For the price of hotels in Kawloon you can stay at some nice ones for the same price.I also felt that the area was not great, We ended up staying at the miramar which is right on Nathan road and were very happy that we made the change. Good luck and have a great time, and do stay on the Kawloon side.
Michael

We stayed at the Majestic Hotel which is part of the Furama family. We stayed at the Furama on the Island many years ago and it was fantastic but it was too expensive for us this time. The Majestic which is on Nathan Road in Kowloon was a great mid price hotel in a good location. If you can get a good price on it go for it.

Im a frequent HK visitor but haven't stayed in Harbour Plaza. Kowloon Hotel is ok if you spend very minimal time in your hotel room. The rooms are quite small, about the size of a ship cabin (no joke). It's location though is right there in the Kowloon shopping district. I hear Salisbury offers better value. Or you can stay at the Marco Polo, HongKong hotels in Ocean Centre (All these are still in Kowloon side).
