For your more information, Now Hong Kong is totally different, The Peak in Hong Kong is not recommand because very boring, and spend a lot of time, you can take Star Ferry from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui you must enjoy the harbour view. Although shopping in Mongkok and Tsim Sha Tsui very crowded the price is very cheap, Must go Ocean Park because they organize the park well, Don't go Disney Park because HK disney Park totally different to Japan and Europe.

Yucca de Lac's Chinese name is 雍雅山房. It even has its wikipedia page. It is on Tai Po Highway, across from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

I'm fascinated by all the above as it was my father who built The Shatin Heights Hotel and I really want to go up to the site of where it was and until I read this I didn't have a clue as to where it was. I am returning at the end of November 2015 to HK after 64 yrs from my home in Ireland to attend The Last Ever Reunion of survivers, relatives and decendants of those interred at Stanley 1942-1946 and who included my father JB Gardiner and my Grandmother. My grandmother owed and ran a hotel called The Harbour View which is where I lived for the first 4 yrs of my life. I don't know where that was and it is certainly gone now. Photos show an old white colonial style building. If anyony is interested in any of this I can put up some old photos of both hotels. It would be lovely to pick up a thread!!

A very small aside but the ferry from Hung Hom to Central no longer operates. From HH only a ferry to North Point. It's a pity the HK govt cares so little for the ferries across the harbor.

Carolyn - you should start a new thread. Definitely worth discussing about your upcoming trip.
