Hong Kong convenient hotels
We plan to visit HK for 6 days in 12/01. I'm told that a good area is on/near Nathan Road on Kowloon. I have some names: Majestic Hotel - Park Hotel - Miramar Hotel - Kowloon Hotel - and the Regal Kowloon. We're open to suggestions. We'd like to go into the mainland for a daytrip. Is a visa required? We'd like to visit Macau, and the racetrack, and The Peak, and some temples and markets too. Any advice would be appreciated. Sincerely
Robert Brinin

I am an American currently living in Hong Kong. The Nathan Road area is where most of the shopping occurs. It is also near the touristy Temple Street Night Market, the Jade Market, art museum etc. It is a quick ferry ride (Star Ferry) across the harbor to Hong Kong, where you can quickly get to the Happy Valley racetrack and to go see the Peak.

Hotels are expensive in Hong Kong but if money is no object, the Pennisula is great.

As for visiting the mainland, yes you will need a visa. You just need your passport for Macau, though. Good luck.

We stayed last year at the Sheraton which is on Nathan Rd. across from the Pennisula Hotel. It is cheaper but the same location near everything. As stated easy walking to the ferry, restaurants, market, etc. The hotel also had the best buffet breakfast and a great high tea buffet on the week-end.
