Once I get the "where and when" sorted out on paper, I set up a spreadsheet with the same info as Kavey. I just find it easier to do overall planning on paper, just as I still prefer paper guidebooks for that phase.

One big, crowded city after another can be very oppressive in Asia. These cities are more crowded than The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. If you are only interested in nightlife, then that might work out for you, but it seems nightmarish to me.

Of course, you can get away from crowds, but you have to be a fairly resourceful traveler.

Everywhere will be safe for you.

Further evidence, I think, that people travel in very different ways. I found it extremely easy to get away from the crowds in Singapore and possible to do so in Tokyo and, even though I have no interest whatsoever in nightlife, I enjoyed my time in both cities. As already noted, I haven't been to Hong Kong yet.

I've been to all of those cities but Seoul, and I don't recognize shelemm's description as applying to my experience of any of them. You are so right kja, we all travel differently and are looking for different things.

" I found it extremely easy to get away from the crowds in Singapore."

I did, too as I was back in Singapore in Jan/Feb and would get on the MRT (subway) and go way out on it, like as many as 11 stops away from City Hall MRT station which is in the heart of Singapore. I also like to go to parts of Katong although closer to the central city.

Happy Travels!
