Hi, Ms Lee!
I travelled between the two cities by plane, not train, so I can't tell you much -- this is just to start the ball rolling. A friend of mine who did the train journey said it was not-very-comfortable, but very scenic and quite fascinating. A great way to get to meet the people! She would rather not talk about the toilet facilities on the train, however!

We took the overnight train (1st class sleeper) from Hanoi to Hue. The train left about 8 p.m. and arrived about 8 a.m. We took the overnight train from Danang to Saigon. The train left about 3 or 4 p.m. and arrived at 7 a.m.
We thought that the trains were quite adequate, no problems with toilets, but not much food on the trains.

I think the overnight train is about US$40 for first class, but I could be mixing up the price with other train trips I have taken in other SE Asian countries. Train is much better than the minibuses. You can get up and walk around, eat, stretch out if you have a sleeper. Some of roads can be fairly rough if you take the minibus.
