Great fun last night!! Kathie, it was great to see you and Cheryl once again, as well as Mari and the others. We had seen Peter, Linda, Lucy, and Melissa at earlier "events" on this trip.
Thanks, Linda and Lucy, for the goodies last night. We will share them with our crew back in Illinois, if we have some left! We may have to eat some of it here. Peter, I'm sure your selection of Hawaiian music will be lovely. I'll plug it into my Mercedes convertible when I get home, but somehow it won't be quite the same, listening to Hawaiian music as I drive past cornfields!! haha But I know it will bring back fond memories of Hawaii.. Thanks!
Brad and I were the last ones to arrive at the Himalayan Kitchen GTG dinner. We landed at HNL (from Maui) at about 4:40, and then had to grab our rental car (another convertible) and drive into the GTG in rush hour traffic. It was about 6:20 when we sat down at the table. The wine was flowing and everyone was talking and laughing. We jumped right in, with tales from Maui and the no-no roads. Um... I guess there is a nude beach area past Wailea and Makena, where we drove. Peter thought the no-no road was because of the nudists... we didn't see any. The no-no road was because of the rental car contract language! Had we known about the nudist beach, we may have been watching for THAT rather than oohing and aahing at the huge lava field we were driving through! haha
Dinner was great! I can't begin to name all of the dishes we tried, but I can tell you that everything I ate was delicious. It was not nearly as spicy as I had thought it might be.
Our outside table under a canopy, on our own terrace that was separate from the other dining tables, was the perfect place for a small GTG. The choice of Himalayan Kitchen was right on the mark. I'm not sure who picked it, but you get an "attaboy" for that one.
Looking forward to lunch today at Shokudo. We may get to see yet another newbie, Dusty, and look forward to connecting yet another name and face from fodors. Also, we hope Greg and Susu can make it. Don't know about Sarah, from the last two GTGs here. She came along, unannounced, but welcome to join in, as always.
See everyone later!
Aloha... Carol

Another pleasant GTG. This one was smaller. There were 7 of us (Peter, Linda, Kathie, Cheryl, Brad, myself, and we welcomed Dusty this time. Another fodors name/face can be connected. Nice to make your acquaintance, Dusty. Hope you enjoyed lunch with "us."
Looking forward to pupus and wine, and then the Hulaloulae (sp) on Kalakaua this evening.

Being lazy this morning... after last night's "street party" along Kalakaua Avenue. There were oodles of food stands, plus several bandstands where there was live music playing. I loved watching the hula dancers and listening to island music.
We missed folks like Guenmai, Bob, Karen; and Lucy.. do hope you are feeling better...; and Ken and Jackie... we know the results of the big game in Vegas... hope you win some money to overcome your grief... lol
Thanks again, HT and Linda, for showing us such a good time in Hawaii! We'll be back...
Aloha and Mahalo! Carol

It was a lovely gtg as Carol said. It's fun to have the gtg at the time of the aloha festival. The Fodorites were dancing in the streets!
We, too are being lazy today, though we did get up at sunrise to walk on the beach. We're enjoying a day of relaxation before we fly home tomorrow and back to work on Tuesday.
As always, the hospitality of our Hawaiian Fodorites has been wonderful and much appreciated.
