Hi Ken! Glad you jumped in on this discussion. I've been looking thru my new Maui book and it says that it "may" be a violation of rental agreement, but doesn't explain that statement. I guess if we can't drive PAST Hana (to the rough road I read about) then we just do a return on the same route we used from Kahului.

We don't necessarily need a beach location on Maui since we will be exploring the island, not lazing in the sand or by the pool. No set plans yet, just trying to estimate the amt of time we might want on Maui. I'd guess 2 nights. That gives us one complete day (for Hana) and parts of two other days to drive to Ka'anapali and on around that west half of the island.

I see that the Honolulu Advertiser doesn't much like the "Revealed" guides... seems they don't always give positive reviews... it IS an interesing book!

See you in HNL if not in BKK before then. Have fun on your upcoming trip. How long are you there?

The road to Hana has been repaired recently. As I said, we did drive it when we were there in Jan. There is one bridge that was just repaired within the last year and repairs in that area are ongoing. I think that is the area Ken is talking about. The road was closed last year for a while at that point a few miles past Hana to make repairs to the bridge.

You should have good weather at that time of year but if it is raining hard, Ken is right, some of the rivers will over flow the highway at points, but the rain would have to be pretty much torrential or having been raining for days.

The roads are a little rough a few miles after Hana and through the first few miles of the Ulupalukua Ranch but imho, the views are worth it. Just be prepared for it.

You know, I had forgotten about the Pioneer Inn. Great location in Lahaina and walking distance from our favorite Lahanina Restaurant, Gerard's.

It just takes a little longer to see places from Lahaina, but we always end up there or in Kaanapali

Brad has asked me to book his ticket, so I guess he will be coming along to HNL GTG once again!

HT, thanks for that update on the road situation. Sounds like just the sort of drive we would enjoy... and especially in a convertible, and in nice weather! Hope it pans out.

Right now I'm going to wait before making reservations anywhere. I've got time, plenty of time.

Ken, which night is it that your group meets up for a drink at that bar in/near China Town? That was really fun last year; and we ended up going back another time with Bob & Karen. If it's OK, we'd love to show up again.

Enjoy your time on Maui, Carol. I always liked the Wailea area best, but all of the resorts there are rather expensive.

Our remodeling is done as of yesterday, so I can begin to think about other things. I checked airfares yesterday and they were still pretty high. I'll keep checking. We'd love to come to the HNL gtg again!

What can the local HNL folks tell me about Mesa GO airlines. Is it reliable? Have you tried it for inter-island flights? It has better flight times (and cheaper price) than Hawaiian for HNL to OGG when we want to go.

Ken, I tried your link but it wouldn't connect. Maybe I should try again... might have been busy? Were you suggesting a restaurant for the GTG?

Yep, I finally got the link to work. Sounds interesting... although I cannot tolerate that really HOT stuff... lol But it really does sound exotic. Who would have thought... jalopenas in the Himalayas!!

Thanks for the info on Mesa - GO. I don't need to book just yet, but I've got hotels lined up already. We will stay at the PK for 3 nts, then off to Maui for 2 nts at Seaside, and then back to the PK for 3 nts, before heading home. We should be in HNL for Tuesday drinks at Indigo, go to Maui, and then back in HNL for the GTG events on Friday.

Have fun in BKK. You should be just about ready to head out. Brad gets home from there on Tuesday. He's sorry you will miss one another this time. Pls say hi to Maeng and Jack from me.

I just looked at the festival schedule and I see that the night of our GTG is the street fair! That was lots of fun the last time, so I'm sure it will be fun once again.
