What is the best (cheapest!) way to get from HK airport to YMCA Salisbury Kowloon?<BR>Thanks

There is free shuttles to major hotels from the airport. Take the one to TST Kowloon. This is the cheapest. <BR>The best: to take airport express to Kowloon, then 5 minutes free shuttle to the hotel. You've got to try the airport express. It is way too nice. About US$10.

Another vote for the airport express.<BR>Simply the best and quickest way to get downtown.

The airport express is a train - a very comfortable, very clean and convenient one. Takes half an hour to get in town. And you don't have to worry about your luggages - porters (absolutely free) will grab your bags cheerfully onto the trains. Yes it's that amazing.

Yes, the train is excellent. First it is conveniently located within the airport arrivals. No long walk underground like at London's Heathrow.<BR>Second you can easily buy your tickets from machines.I do think you will need HK dollars for the machine. Third, if you've never been to HK before, there are TV monitors on every seat that play a video introduction to Hong Kong as you ride in. Although you may be looking out the window on the train. It is truly the fastest and the cheapest.<BR><BR>Buy your ticket for Kowloon Station not Hong Kong. There at Kowloon Station are indeed free shuttles to hotels.<BR><BR>Only problem is that you may have to wait for the shuttle buses. I think they leave on the half hour.<BR><BR>This is the way I came in on my first trip to HK. <BR><BR>The message that says there are free shuttles from the airport to major hotels is only half correct. There are shuttle buses, but you have to have pre-arranged this with your hotel. These shuttle services will ask for your name and check it against a list provided by the hotel.<BR><BR>But this is NOT the case with the free shuttles connected with the Airport Express Trains. At Kowloon Station, you will simply board the bus that has the route to your hotel. No reservations needed for this shuttle service. <BR><BR>Remember for Kowloon, buy your ticket only to Kowloon Station.<BR><BR>Michael From New York.

Thanks Posters, especially Mike from NY for the detailed info!<BR><BR>This will be our first visit so all will be new to us. I have printed your instructions Mike. Our visit is a free stopover from S'pore to Toronto so we decided to stay a few days. We are excited about the chance to visit HK.<BR>I booked the Salisbury 'Y' on advice from this board. Hi Again Mike,<BR>When you say to take a shuttle from Kowloon station that has the route to my hotel I'm not sure if you mean these shuttles are for specific hotels and I need to grab one that is close to the 'Y' or if there is a shuttle that stops at several hotels. I understand that the 'Y' is beside the Pen - would I take their shuttle - look wealthy - and dream for the length of the bus ride???<BR>Cheers!

Actually the machines take credit cards - at least the ones just outside the baggage claim do (close to the money exchange, right before you step out to greet your friends).<BR><BR>And when in doubt, you can always buy your tickets from the staff to be sure.

There are many hotels, so there are more than one bus routes. For example there are hotels west of Nathan Road and other hotels East of Nathan Road...and a different bus will leave Kowloon Station. They don't run a bus just to one hotel, they have routes. <BR><BR>You'll manage. Don't be afraid to ask when you get to Kowloon Station. Just ask which bus for the Salisbury Y. Thanks Michael,<BR>Im all set now, I can at least make it to my hotel! Our initial winter plan was to visit Australia again. Then my kids were transferred to Singapore and will deliver our first grandchild there - so now Singapore is a stop coming and going. We were offered one additional free stopover with our airfare so we were excited to take advantage and visit HK. I must admit that I have been concentrating my planning on Oz and Singapore and really don't know much about HK yet. If you have any advice for must dos I'd love to hear from you. <BR>Cheers,<BR>Lin

I am thinking of booking the Salisbury and this post has been useful - how long will it take to get from the airport to the hotel?

The YMCA Salisbury is an excellent value -- a clean and basic hotel in a terrific location.

From the time you exit from customs at the airport, it will take less than an hour to reach the hotel. Airport Express trains run every 15 minutes, and it takes 21 minutes to reach Kowloon station (the 2nd of 3 stops).

From Kowloon station, you can either take a free shuttle bus (not sure how often it runs), or a taxi. The taxi will cost HK$16 (about US$2.25), plus a small surcharge for luggage.
