Have you traveled with R. Crusoe or A&K Tours to China?
We are contemplating a tour to China in September. Gathering information for comparison between Abercrombie & Kent tour and Robinson Crusoe tour. If you have personal experience with either company, please post or contact me via email. Thank you.

A & K is one of the most reputable tour companies in the world. It specializes in the very highest quality tour and its clients number the rich and famous of the world. For sure, if you seek perfection and can afford to pay for it - Abercrombie and Kent are unbeatable.

A&K is very expensive for what you get ... for comparable tours, they usually cost thousands more. Also, they do not specialize in China, whcih means that they won't have the detailed know-how (and purchasing power) that other tour companies have that just specialize in China and Asia.

We took an A&K tour of China last May and were very pleased - but, for that price, you should be pleased. Our guide was a Hong Kong native and escorted us from HK on to the mainland (Guilin, Shanghai, Suzhou, Yichang to Chongqing for the Yangtze cruse, Xian and Beijing). In each city, we were met by a local guide who was born and raised in that city. Everything was taken care of. Our hotels were the best to be found (Mandarin Oriental, Portman Ritz Carlton, Palace, etc.) We are not tour people and were hesitant to go on one, but we realized that China was not a destination we wanted to do on our own. There were only 14 people on the tour - and we're still in touch with most of them. We still keep in touch with our guide and are even planning to return to HK this fall to visit with him. Anyway - I highly recommend A&K, but it's not a company I will use for my yearly vacation - but for a special trip, they are great. Oh - I originally contacted Crusoe but had a hard time getting them to send me what I needed and getting my questions answered. Hope this helps.

Meg: It does help. Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience. Like you, we decided that a little hand holding was exactly what we want in China. After much research on our own and discussions with our Hong Kong native neighbors, independent travel did not sound advisable. However, we've had just the reverse problem from you. We were unable to get satisfactory answers from A&K, so eventually decided on R. Crusoe because of the detailed information they provided - including lengthy responses to my email questions. Funny what a difference a particular sales person can make. Thanks again for your help.
