There is absolutely no need for a guide or a driver in Singapore. Some people like a guide or a driver in Bangkok. For a driver, search here for info on how to contact Rat (or Ratt) or for a guide, look for info on Tong.

For Bangkok you can get tours through travel agencies pretty easy.. Choose a tour the night before and leave the following morning. Choose a tour in the morning leave that afternoon or evening (maybe a dinner cruise too!)

Even some hotels have tour desks. Thailand makes it easy to get a tour if you want one! If you need a driver to drive you around town you can also get one through one of the hundreds of travel agencies. But, most of the time you probably won't need one.

Bangkok makes it easy to get around town. If your hotel is near the Skytrain route you can use that rail service to take you to many popular areas. Meter taxi service is real cheap! Wave a moving meter taxi over (hundreds and hundreds of them) tell the driver meter only and hop in when he says okay. If he wants to bargain get another one passing by. More drivers say okay than want to bargain the fare - unless you are outside an expensive hotel! Then they figure you are wealthy and can afford to pay 2 or 3 times the meter fare!

Good luck.

I second the motion for Tong. She is fantastic. Prompt, a great guide with lots of information and lots of extras that you'll enjoy like drinks, cold cloths to clean up with and more. She is very good at what she does and she has some fun ideas for off the beaten path tours. She is also very flexible.
