For those of you headed to Hanoi, here's an excellent resource for good restaurants:

Food from Hanoi Day 2 is now posted on my blog.

Hot as Hades here in Hoi An. Jellyfish in the sea.
Having a coat made in town. Looks like it will be beautiful, but trying on wool in 100 degrees and 90% humidity is torture.

Picked up my coat today and it's lovely. If anyone needs a tailor in Hoi An, I can recommend "Hoi An Cloth Shop" at 154 Tran Phu St. Ask for "Queenie" (Quyen).
Had a great moment today. We thought we were leaving tomorrow but realized we had another day. Love it when that happens!

Great websites and the photos are incredible. Then again I knew they would be.
Hope you enjoy Saigon and the food as much as I did. If you are there on a weekend don't miss Lang du Lich Binh Quoi where they serve 80 kinds of Vietnamese food in a beautiful garden about 45 minutes by bus from the center of the city.

nywoman-I remember your report and how much you loved the food there. I'm sure that influenced my decision to go there.
I wanted to go to that weekend place, but unfortunately we aren't there at the right time.

Getting on the plane in a few hours. I'll see you at your hotel this evening. If I don't show up, I'm still at my hotel trying to get across the street; come rescue me.

Greetings from the Saigon Sheraton!
For you SPG members:
We had booked a standard room with cash plus points (per night, 4000 points plus $90). On arrival they offered an upgrade to a brand new towers room for an extra $81 a night (ouch). Includes, breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and internet.
I said no, but then Dave asked if we could upgrade with points. Yes, indeed. For another 6000 points a night.
So, here we are in the Towers Lounge, enjoying the free "afteroon tea" and wifi.
We are anxiously awaiting Lori's arrival and looking forward to going out to eat in earnest.

Kristina...your blogs are so helpful, pics, fab. My husband and I are planning our own trip to Vietnam and are reading mixed reviews on hotels so we are anxious to hear your reviews in the cities you are traveling to. Hoi An disaster? We will definitely be following you on your trip and blogs. We are going this October. After reading all your food comments, we are so excited - we love Vietnamese
food here in the states. This is our first Aisa trip so we are researching lots of blogs. Your's is the best. Have fun! Fran and Steve

While Mr. and Mrs. Kristina are having free snacks and wifi at the sheraton I'm here 2 blocks over listening to the construction crew under my window at 10:30 pm. Kristina insisted I not get the $20 room with no window. This would generally be good advise, but in this case, not so much!
There is internet in my room; the cable hangs down from the ceiling and does not reach any of the furniture, so I built a tower by putting my suitcase on top of the nightstand so it would reach. Charming.

fmr0130-thanks! No real disaster with the room in Hoi An. Nothing that a little extra $$ to upgrade could not fix. There will be more on my website (well before you go) once I get home.
Lori-Oh, poor you! You neglected to mention the awesome meal we all had in a little restaurant which included Tamarind crab claws and fresh spring rolls (among other items), all for under $7 a person. Or the street vendor selling, of all things, roasted potatoes and eggs near the market (so good!).
Or the overpriced drinks on the rooftop of the Rex. You are not suffering all that much, but the image of the tower you built to reach your computer cable IS pretty funny.
We are now enjoying our breakfast and David wanted to say he thought of you as he contemplated the cheese plate.;-)
