Hello Francebound...we are also on the waiting list for Hotel Mume and they're currently clearing their November reservations, so I suspect you'll hear shortly. We will also overlap one day at Mume...we'll be there for three nights beginning on November 10. Regarding your question about asking Mume to book the Moss Temple, I think you should ask them. We stayed at Mume previously and they're extremely helpful with activities like that.

BTW, we're also going to Hiroshima and Miyajima after Kyoto, although in our case we're doing it in the opposite order of you. And we did Takayama on our last trip--I'm no expert, but I think you really have a nice itinerary!

magritten millie2112 progol It was a good exercise in patience but I finally received the nicest email from Hotel Mume confirming our 5 nights there, and in our first choice of room too! The final piece has slipped into my hotel puzzle. The Cross was our backup and would have been good too but I am pleased to be able to stay at Mume.

Glad you're in--I think you'll really enjoy Mume and the hospitality of Hisako and her team! We'll have to say hello on our overlap day at the hotel.

Made me think of Showa Memorial Park (Showa Kinen Koen) - Tokyo Travel

(did ht once mention the ginkos turning in Dec?)

Showa Memorial Park is also a popular destination for autumn color viewing. The leaves in the park usually change color already around mid November, typically a couple of weeks earlier than the trees in central Tokyo. The park's premier places for autumn colors are the Japanese Garden with its many maple trees, the ginkgo tree-lined canal near the Tachikawa Entrance and a ginkgo tree-covered street in the southwest of the park.
Yes, in our experiences ginkos in Showa Kinen Koen and also areas around Shinjuku turn end of November. We will be there at that time this year and am hopeful to see the colors then.

Aloha!

I'm so happy that you'll be staying at Mume! You'll be spoiled after that for any other place! Please do say hello to Hisako and her team, especially Nana and Hikaru, for me! They really are the best!
