FINALLY OUR FINAL ITINERARY FOR YOUR COMMENTS-

Hello to all.
After many changes and comes and go's we have this as "our final itineray" before going farther I will like to hear the comments of all of you that have help us to put this together.

AUG 12 Arrival IN BKK
AUG 12-15 BKK -Marriott Bangkok
AUG 15-19 Shang Rai - Anantara
AUG 19-23 HKK - Most likely JW Marriott -many have suggested Reinassance Kowloon
AUG 23-27 Hua Hin - Marriott
AUG 27 Overnight in BKK
AUG 28-SEP 5 BALI -
SEP 5- 8 BKK - Marriott Resort and Spa
SEP 8 - Lata afternoon back to Paris

As most of you know we are chossing Marriott because we have point with them. The week in Bali is with our time share - The Peninsula Beach Resort.
Will like to hear if we are spending to much time in any city specially in BKK - Do we still have time to go to Hanoi? Air Pass is only and extra 150.

Thanks for everything.

Diana

In order to keep the itinerary under 5 cities...HOW ABOUT changing Hua Hin for Hanoi? We are going to the becah in Bali and also iis rainy season in Thailand..... Or is Hua HIn that beautiful that we should not avoid it.

not too be a jerk but who made this itinuary you are an agent. it's a bit of a mess, your jumping all over the place. and back tracking. for no reasen unles you have an airpass or have too be in a place at a certain date.

generaly these kinds off trips are done in a circle..

i think you can kill hua hin and just devide those days into HK and bali.. and if you wish you can take excursions into mailnad china, or Macau. (HK) or go too Lombok (bali)

Regarding your comment...yes of course we are using an AIR PASS is the only way to get around in SE ASIA. WE are using THAI AIRWAY.. so we have to do evrythin via BKK. Do you have a better suggestion...???
MOst of the people in Fodors suggested we should spend alot of time in BKK even beeter if we split it in two...we were able to do it.....
Q...Is a Visa needed it to go to Macau..??
Thanks,

Diana

Thansk a lot,

Diana

My comments on your itinerary:

1. I also don?t' see the point of going back to Thailand to go to Hua Hin which is a very average beach and not a very nice town. There is not a lot of cultural interest their either. I would skip it and allocate time between the other places in Thailand like Koh Samui, or add other places like Cambodia (Ankor Wat), Vietnam and/or the east coast of Malaysia which is gorgeous in August. You have a lot of time to play with. I would spend one more day in Bangkok in the beginning, as you will need time to get over jet lag, and you are going to be in Bangkok at one of the hottest times of the year, which will slow you down as well. Take a day by the pool at the Marriott.

2. If you can get into the JW Marriot in Hong Kong, stay there. It is a nicer hotel than the Renaissance, and is better located, IMO, for getting around the island. It is a pain to get out and back to the Renaissance every day, as it is a bit isolated there in Wan Chai. The one advantage I see to the Renaissance is that they have a very nice pool deck area. The Marriott has a nice pool as well, just not as large an area nor as landscaped. Overall I would choose the Marriott over the Renaissance.

3. Assuming you are a US citizen, you don't need a visa for Macau. If you hold another passport, see the Macau Government home page at http://www.macau.gov.mo for visa requirements.
Consider spending a night in Macau as you have the time and can really see the island. On Taipa and Coloane (esp Coloane), there is much less of a city feel, and there are some nice beaches and parks. A lot of people don't see these green and quiet parts of Macau when they come to the city for the day. There is a Westin on the beach on Colane which is where I would stay if I were going for a night. Take a look at starwood.com.

The Westin Resort Macau
1918 Estrada De Hac Sa
Coloane

What is your itinerary for Bali and where are you staying. We could provide comments on that as well.

Sorry, with regard to my comment on the various Marriott hotels in Hong Kong, I thought you were talking about the Renaissance Harbour View on Hong Kong Island. Now I see you are talking about the Renaissance Kowloon. No question here that the Marriott is a much nicer hotel and is better located for sightseeing, IMO, as most of what you want to see is on Hong Kong Island. Also, many of the rooms in the Renaissance do not have any view (they look onto a courtyard) as the Intercontinental is in front of them.

are you flying out of Paris.?

which thai air pass includes HK, bali etc. is it new.? or are you using the ASEAN air pass which thai airways is a member of ($125 per leg)..GREAT DEAL.

I've read most of your posts and I'll just will say keep it simple. it seems like you have information overload. keep away from fodors for a while

maybe forget about hua hin and Hanoi and at your schedualled destinhations see what fun tours/ solo excursions are available.. just setle down and don't over plan..

Hello!
Thanks for the suggestions for side trips. We are not holders of US passports which complicates things! We do not need a visa to go to Hong Kong but we do for almost the rest of the world

I check the web site for Macau and I understan dthat we can get a visa upont arrival....sounds like a good option if we decide to go.

I dont know what kind of airpass we are using but yes it is one that charges around 125 for trip with a maximum of 4 trips but as I understand it is only for Thai Airways...that is why we have to go to BKK everytime.

And yes we are flying to and from PAris, that is where we live.

Regarding BAli, we are staying one week and yes we are stick to those dates - we are taking to XXYY Bob's tour guide in Bali to do the day trips.

Thanks,

Diana

I do remember from your previous posts that you have particular dates when you need to be in Hong Kong and in Bali. The one change I'd make would be, as others have suggested, to skip Hua Hin and spend more time in Chiang Rai (Anantara) and Hong Kong.

Have a wonderful trip.

how did you get the pass without buying an internation flight on an ASEAN airline in the program.

according too the rules. you could choose another ASEAN airline if a segment is not available on thai. you can choose from airlines like Singapore airlines, malaysian. or in your case which ever is needed too get ya from HK too bali

thanks for the help.. this is a pass not well known on this site and I think any info is usefull..
