Sounds like you are having a great time. Can't wait to see the photos. I've always wondered about Pai, but worried that it has become too much like Khao San Road, if you know what I mean.
We are about to gewt torrential rain here in LA, so be happy you are there and not here.

Hey guys. In Ko Racha now. Woweee! It's beautiful here...a bit overcast, but I'm grateful for that given that when the sun does shine unhindered, it's about 95+ degrees.
Best part is, when we arrived yesterday, we were supposed to have an ocean view room (we're celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary) and the room they put us in had a view...of the back of the pool bar. So I asked as nicely as possible and explained the situation. After about 3 back and forths with 2 managers, we were upgraded to a POOL VILLA! Ha! We've never stayed in such luxury before and it really is just the most perfect touch to the wrap-up of our 3rd trip to Thailand.
The irony is that I believed that this would be our last big jaunt for awhile. But, as always, I'm stung by Thailand--and I doubt the fever will go away.
I know some of you can relate.
Looking forward to our BKK GTG in a few days!

Bet you are really glad you managed to get to Thailand now!! I am v jealous! Pai sounded lovely - wish we could go there this trip but don't fancy the road trip or plane trip with a baby in my arms!

Wonderful! As you know, it never hurts to ask...
The photos of La Racha look fabulous as well. I'm anxiously awaiting your report on this whole trip.
As you know we are addicted to SE Asia. It's hard to imagine not gong back next year!

Hi Will, glad you've had such a great time particularly after all the 'pre trip stress'!
I'm keen to hear how Racha compares with Phi Phi.
Kathie mentions your Racha pictures. Have I missed a link to them? I'd love to take a look.
Looking forward to more details about this trip.

Welcome to Sukhumvit! I think, if I recall correctly, that you will be checking in later on this afternoon at Marriott. I'm all unpacked and relaxing on soi 8 at the Adelphi once again.
See you on Sunday! Enjoy your last few days here.

Just back from the GTG. We all had a really nice time together. It's always nice to meet up with other fodorites in exotic locations! There were 5 of us, so a mini-GTG of sorts... but lovely company! Oh, and the Sunday brunch at the Millenium is awesome!
I'll let filmwill and michaelbkk and DS add their comments...

I'm sitting here now at the Royal Silk lounge at Suvarnabhumi, sipping a little G&T and contemplating getting one of all-so-tempting complimentary massages they are offering.
All this pampering is making leaving all the much harder.
Had such a nice time at the GTG today, meeting Carol (again, but finally actually meeting!), Brad and Michael. As Carol noted, the food was sooo yummy. Some of the best (if not the best) we had on this trip. Highly recommended.
I think, as with most of us Fodorites, we all could've yammered on for years about how much we love Thailand. As Carol noted in her own post, everyone is just so nice and there's an instant bond with the Asia travel board folks that you just don't find anywhere else.
Kristina, I'll post more when I get home and have recovered (as much as possible) from what's sure to be a nasty case of jetlag, but in short: the SGS was just 'eh'...we did cash and points and while I was glad to not fork out a lot of cash for our last 2 nights (where we barely spent any time at the hotel)...it was just SUCH a business hotel in every respect. Perfectly fine for a chain hotel, not at all Thai and nothing special is how I would describe it. Also, a bit of advice: plan on bringing your life savings to pay for the incidentals (how do you feel about 700+ Baht for 24hrs of internet access?...that alone will not have me returning anytime soon.)
But, all that aside, it was an AMAZING trip yet again, and it is with definite sadness I have to part ways with my favorite country (kicking and screaming, I might add.) I rest in the knowledge that I'll return sometime in the next few years to again see the smiles
Full trip report to come. Thanks, guys, for all your support in the days leading up to our trip. In the end, coming was the best decision we could've made.
Off to have another drink, a little nosh and then to nestle into our comfy seats for the long journey home.
