Feedback Needed on Siem Reap Hotels

These were quoted by Pon Heary:

Prince d'Angkor - 75 USD
Angkor Holiday - 50 USD
Angkoriana - 40 USD

Can someone tell me about any of these?

Is it better if I book on my own?

I'll be staying from 2/27 - 3/2

As long as thes rates include the 20% tax/service charge and breakfast you will not find any better ones.

The Prince D’Angkor Hotel & Spa is new
this year and is a nice deluxe type of hotel, located right in town. Rooms are spacious and clean with good size bed, nice bathroom with shower and a balcony overlooking the pool/garden. Good food in their restaurants. Pool is nice but is salt water which some people do not like. This would be my choice of the three.

Angkor Holiday is another new one for 2005. Not right in town but walkable. Of a upper mid range level but very nice with all the room/hotel conveniences you might want. Special rates right now at 50% off, so the rooms are a bargain at $50-60.

The Angkoriana is a quiet & comfortable mid range hotel. There are 3 floors but no elevator and the rooms are clean and adequent with TV & refrigerator. Those at rear of the hotel have less street noise. Good but limited western style breakfast. Dinning room is open and not air conditioned. The staff are exceptionally friendly and of great help when needing something. Not really in walking distance to town (about a km).

I don't know when your trip is, but I too got the same recommendations from Ponheary and chose the Angkor Holiday. I will be staying there March 16-19, so if my trip is before yours you will be able to get a review and pictures when I return.

Much better than those big touristy places.

I was just in Siem Reap and stayed at the Angkor Discovery Inn (right near the FCC). It was $28 US a night with a nice breakfast included every morning. The staff was lovely, the location great and the room clean with tv, good beds, ac, a balcony and a bathtub! Can't beat the price or the little area the hotel is in!

Seems this Pon Heary has cornered the market. Why are you folk not up to finding somewhere for yourselves? Must you be spoon fed?

There are loads of places to stay in Siem Reap from cheap & cheerful @ $10US a night (still gets you a private bathroom and for a few dollars more a/c too). Go up a scale and you'll get all the comforts you want.

I don't understand why you must stay somewhere Pon Heary recommends.

We stayed at the Prince D'Angkor and liked it. We booked through Ponheary and the $90 per night (it was over New Year's Eve) included everything, tax, service and breakfast. The salt water pool was very nice. It's not very salty and is a nice change from chlorine.

You do not have to stay at a place that Ponheary recommends. However, you WILL save money if you book through her. She works with a local agent and gets great prices for many hotels in Siem Reap. If you have a particular hotel in mind (all price ranges), you should ask her if the agency handles it.

Must we be spoon fed, no. Must we stay somewhere that Pon Heary recommends, again, no.

We are simply asking opinions of hotels we have never visited and have limited knowledge of. Have you never asked a question of the visitors to this forum?

I don't understand why you felt the need to reply to this post at all.

Dear Fuzzy: If having help from a native and recommendations from people who have been there is being spoon-fed, then feeeed meeee, please. I have nothing but gratitude, as a first-time traveler to asia, for the help I've received. Because of this website, we've booked Ponheary's brother as a guide and the Prince d'Angkor hotel, and I have every confidence that it will be a wonderful experience. Perhaps you don't enjoy help from community? why bother checking this website at all, much less posting? For those who do like to share, we will be in Siem Reap in the middle of March and I will be happy to report our experience.

sharon212 - some first-time travellers to Asia just get on a plane and go. You get off the other end and you find somewhere to stay - not a big deal.

The reason I post is that I travel that way and sometimes think other people might like it too. Just proposing an alternative. Just saying that it is possible and fun.

But people with closed minds won't even recognise that there is an alternative.

Fuzzylogic:

It's hard to take in your suggestions when you use words like "spoonfed" in a critical way. I respect your right to travel as you wish, and I'm sure you have wonderful experiences doing so. I'll look forward to reading about them.

I'm staying at the Bopha Angkor, which gets great reviews, in here and on TravelAdvisor. Its about $40 a night for two.

A good accommodation site is www.travelfish.org

Go to the Cambodian section, then Siem Reap and then accommodation. It also has a good section on Siem Reap restaurants.

Whoops!!! The Bophar Angkor website is

www.bopha-angkor.com

I've booked there. They seem efficient with responses to emails.

Hey fuzzy spoonfeed me!

"There are loads of places to stay in Siem Reap from cheap & cheerful @ $10US a night (still gets you a private bathroom and for a few dollars more a/c too). Go up a scale and you'll get all the comforts you want".

Do you have any recomendations on your statement? $10 US a nite would be a great deal. Would love to know as we are headed there in a few weeks.

Aloha!

Hi, Broncos32

We will be there at the same time. Arrive on March 16, leave the 20th. We've booked Dara, Ponheary's brother. Where are you staying?
