Fear of flying--to China
Do the seasoned travelers hesitate to make
travel plans for later in the year given
the potential for the U.S. to be involved in
a war? Do you travel on war or no war?

Off to Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Hong kong in April. The Chinese do not have a big sense of humor for terrorism. Noticed we had a military jet escort out of Hong Kong to LAX 6 years ago.
The attendants on the plane kept closing the blinds so we wouldn't notice. Forgot why this all happened, but FEAR is what our enemies want us to have and not help the world economy with travel. There are many places that I would not go, however!!!!!DUH!!!!

This is to R. Ross and also Deloris. I am booked on a 19 day China trip in early April. I traveled last February to Africa with no problems. I have no plans to change my trip. Deloris--are you going on a group tour? Maybe we can compare notes.

No RR
Got 2 hotels thru Luxury Link.com and 2 thru Orbitz, and am using Far & Wide tours to get us around to anywhere we would ordinarily take a bus for an all day overview. They are also taking care of air tics in China.
We don't play well with others when it comes to bus tours unless they are overview city buses. Far and Wide is a good tour company that got us around
Australia twice and they do a great job.
I find a private tour or pre-approved cost in a day with a taxi driver with your hotel concierge is a great way to go. You can get in and out of tourist traps at your own rate and you don't have to deal with all kinds of "personality"! It is just about as cheap, too and you don't have to eat in all those disgusting tourist
restaurants and have forced tours of factories specified by tour companies so they get their cut. Think it over!

Hey Bouzin
I've only been to Hong Kong in China so the next trip is all new stuff for me.
From what I gather from friends who have been and some lived there, China is like any big country......the more you see the more you have to see! Probably needs more than one trip to get good coverage, but who can afford that? Where we are going and using a private guide will be a time saver that will help us cover lots of ground in limited time. Pick and choose according to your interests. Hong Kong was a must see again for me. Will be glad to answer questions when I get back the end of April.
