Hi all,

I recently found a good rate on China Air, but I don't know anyone who has flow them. Since it's longhaul and I'm bringing my parents (in their 60's), I want it to be relatively comfortable. Unfortunately can't afford business class.

I flew China air from Chendu to Llasa and back and from Chendu to Hong Kong. Very nice experience. Very much on time which is more than you can say about US airlines

Please let us know if you're talking about China Airlines of Taipei, or Air China of Beijing. Two totally different airlines.

What richhb described is Air China. But basically any Chinese airline has great on-time performance except on some busy routes like Shanghai-Beijing or Shanghia-Guangzhou/Shenzhen/Hong Kong.

If you are referring to Air China, my 13-year old and I flew them from LAX-Bejing Shanghai-LAX 4 years ago.

I found the coach section to be far superior to any domestic coach section. Roomier, better food, no complaints.

Using pretty elementry deduction skills, I suspect she probably means China Airlines, the China "Air" Air being short for Airlines is what gave it away for me.

geez with responses like the one you gave its a wonder anyone even post here. That was such a catty response. You could have been a little nicer and just aked her to clarify for sure what airline she was talking about instead of being so sarcastic about it. She comes here for help and has to get that kind of response. I just think its ridiclous.

And please read my reply again. I asked the OP to clarify which airline she's talking about. And saying plainly that "There's no such thing as 'China Air'" is factually accurate, right to the point and not sacarstic or rude.

cayenne, I notice that this is your first post here. While rkkwan may have been a bit abrupt in his first sentence, the fact is, there was nothing nasty or insulting about his post. If you have been reading this board, you would know that he is a frequent poster who has been exceptionally helpful to people asking questions especially about Hong King and China.

It is not obvious which airline Amy is referring to. There is often confusion about those two airlines.

The point is, I don't think you had to be so abrupt, and unless Amy is dyslesic I don't see the connection and confusion between Air China and China Airlines, which in my opion saying "China Air" seems to be almost obvious short for China Airlines.

"Hi, there is some confusion in what airline you may be refering to. There is an Air China, and a China Airlines, these are diffrent, please clarify which one you are talking about, and we will see if we can help"

I flew China Airlines, the Taiwanese carrier, from New York to Saigon 6 years ago. Economy. What can I say? Of course the flight to Taipei was hellishly long..we stopped in Alaska en route. I changed in Taipei for Saigon. Compared to other long economy flights I have taken, it was not too bad...

hey all... wow! who knew what I was stirring up when I posted that question! Let's please call a truce!

Actually after I posted it I started googling reviews of airlines and realized there was going to be confusion about which airline I meant, should have corrected it right away I guess! Anyway, I meant China Airlines out of Tei Pei. I am flying to Vietnam from NYC.

So, any recent flyers? Is Singapore Air worth 400$ more per ticket?

I don't have recent experience with China Airlines, but others find it okay.

As for Singapore, if that fare is for the non-stop EWR-SIN on the Airbus 340-500, then YES, because it only has premium economy with wider seats, more legroom and more recline.

If it's JFK-FRA-SIN on the 744, then no.

If it's a connection at LAX, then the LAX-SIN in premium economy, then still probably no, as that adds quite a bit of travel time.

I have flew with Chin Airline and Air China several times last month, both carriers were on time, clean, and offered decent food even in short distance flights, much better than the airlines in North America.

I flew on China Airlines last year. The fare was very reasonable at the time, and as a result, the flight was full. Maybe the seats are smaller than normal in coach, I don't know, but the plane felt very crowded. In talking to fellow passengers, I learned that a lot of high tech workers use the airline to commute between their jobs in Asia and their homes in California.

One odd thing I remember about the flight -- the meal was served on paper plates!

I would think that the Singapore Airlines flights from JFK via Singapore would involve much more flying time to Saigon than would the China Airlines flights through Taipei...
