Drinking Water

As a person who loves to drink water, this is always a concern to me when I travel. Is China's water safe to drink i.e., at good hotels or restaurants, or will I need to buy bottled water.

At most hotels, 3* or higher, you'll find bottled water or a water-dispenser from a a gallon-sized jug.

At restaurants, you won't find water being served usually. They may give you tea (which is brewed from boiled water), soft drinks or beer/wine.

You'll still need to buy bottled water when you're out sightseeing.

Anywhere in Asia I always drink bottled water. It is cheap and the consequences of contaminated water are dire. You MUST break a seal on the bottle first(otherwise it could be tap water or worse).

If you find yourself sweating to excess anywhere, consider mineral water as normal water will merely replace the liquid and not the necessary salts, minerals, etc. Leaving water in direct sun can make it go off.

Not only should you not drink the water in Asia, many advise not using it to clean your teeth. You also need to avoid ice, and raw fruit and vegetables unless you can peel them, or know they have been washed in purified water. Be careful with fruit juice, as it may have added water. (Do you live in N.C.?)

Thanks for your responses - you all have been very helpful. I won't have to worry about heat, since I'm travelling in March.

I live in WA state.
