Direct flight Chiang Mai to Phuket - expensive, any advice?

We need to fly from Chiang Main to Phuket on Dec 1st, direct flight on Thai seems to be quite expensive. Is there a way how to book the flight for less, ei using agent? any advice is appreciated

There is only one non-stop flight fromm Chaing Mai to Phuket, which is why it is so expensive. There are plenty of flights from CHiang Mai to Bangkok and Bangkok to Phuket, so if you are willing to change planes you can get from CM to Phuket much less expensively. My caution would be that if you fly Air Asia you'll have to pick up and re-check your luggage in BKK, which is a hassle. Thai Air or Bangkok Air will trnsfer your luggage for you.

Personally i think its depends what the price diff is, if it is lots of £££ then yes go via bangkok but if its not too much then i wouldn't waste valuable holiday time.

Remember, your vacation time is actually worth a lot. You might be able to save some money going through BKK, but it will take considerably longer. Do a cost/benefit analysis and the decision will be clear.

Air asia will be quite a bit cheaper by around $60 (after allowing the charge fot 20kgs of baggage). By leaving CM at 8.20 you can make connections in Bangkok for their 10.50 flight and be in Phuket a couple of hours before the Thai direct flight. It all depends on whether you want to pay the extra for the convenience of a direct flight

You have a good point there. with my luck the Air asia direct flights from CM to Phuket are starting on Dec 3rd, so I'll stick to the direct on Thai.
thank you
