Delhi Metro System

Has anyone used the Metro in Delhi? If so, would you recommend it? I looked at the routes and they don't seem too comprehensive just yet.

I've never used it, although I went down into the station by the Red Fort. Delhi is just so interesting that I prefer to be in a taxi or autorickshaw where I can see the city. I do think the metro will be nice once it goes out to the airport.

That's a good point. My husband seems to think the Metro will be faster, which it probably is, but why see India in a tunnel underground?

We leave Sunday morning, Nov. 15th. I'm still having free floating anxiety, but was reminded of your advice to someone on this board to ". . . just go with it."

Can I get decent coffee in India? Or is it all about the tea?

We had no problem finding decent coffee or beer in India. The problem is finding drinkable wine. Indian wine is quite pricey and there's mucho room for improvement...

Relax and have a safe trip IP. We'll be waiting to read all about it.

Thanks for the info. I was debating about putting a small container of espresso powder in my luggage. We heard that wine is terrible and/or expensive, so will likely stick with gin.

The routes are limited (but massive expansion is underway) but for many sights it is very convenient. Super cheap, very clean, also very crowded. The traffic in Delhi is awful so it was nice to get a break from the stop and go and take the speedier metro. Trains run fairly frequently. Also, much of the metro is above ground so you are not in a "tunnel" and actually get to see the city.
