Some possiblities include visitng the Labour Museum; http://www.2bangkok.com/labour.shtml
seeing a performance at the wonderful Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre; consulting a fortune-teller, medium, or spirit doctor; attending a temple fair; visiting a coconut plantation and sampling the sugar confection; or stopping by the railroad market a little ways out of town where the vendors spread their wares along the tracks and then hurriedly gather them up every time a train comes through.

Oh Bob and Andy, I've laughed so much reading some of these suggestions and comments.
Here is one more... but I don't think you will be invited. I'm being taken on a special tour of the Labor and Delivery ward, and, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Siriraj Mahidal University Hospital, BKK, by the Professor of Pediatrics. Then he's takin me and dh to his most favorite Thai Restauraunt for lunch.
I'm sure you will all have a wonderful time and lots of laughs. I'll be in your environs next week, would still like to meet you and wives for dinner on the 8th if possible.

here are some things I think would a little difrent for bob at least
1. play with soi dog. they need your love too.
2. eat stall food and No im not talking about the bugs and super spicey food. the omlettts are good as hell, if you just cant "go locala" why not buy a hot dog, it will be a small step but one day you may actually eat some "truly" tastey food.
3. cross the bridge to the thonburi side of the rive and swim with the children in the 'golden" river.
4 throw a dart at a map of thailand and go to that area.
5 when you get to thailand buy a yelloer "royal shirt" and try to wear it on a monday or thursday.
6 attend a anti toksin demenstration, there seems to be one going on everyweek.
7 hmm maybe the men can do some scientific reaserch on what a ping pong show is.

LOL about your bit with the street food!
This is for crusinred and pebbles 13, the show you're talking about was Take 5 on the Travel Channel. The series is over, covered several areas of the Pacific Rim and ended in Thailand. That's the show cruisinred spoke of. If it comes back on again, you all may enjoy it. I did.

Thanks Bob, I had read all the interesting threads on Bumengrad (sp?) and thought that as we will be in Thailand for about 5 weeks it might not be a bad idea to pre register there. I was also thinking of dh & I getting our teeth whitened whilst there. BTW isn't your wife a nurse? or in the medical profession? Have you both toured any hospitals in BKK?

yes karen is a nurse....we toured Bumb. about two years ago....she found it 100% up to date with the harvard teaching hospital where she works in boston....same eqpt. etc....only the ratio of nurses to patients far greater in thailand.....and the cost factor a fraction of usa costs....
i am going to look into teeth crowns while there as well
