Day trip from Siem Reap-Luang Prabang??

Is it possible without driving all day to get from Siem Reap to Luang Prabang with a tour taxi? If we were willing to take up to 10 hours would we be driving for half the time? If so, is the trip beatiful? Can you drive one route going and another route on the return?
Has anyone made the trip?

This realistically isn't an option. There are a wide variety of issues involved, but the slowness of travel, the limited number of border crossings open to foreign travlers, etc make this impossible. And frankly an hour or two in LP would be disappointing.

This is not a feasible option, Stan. There would be no value gained, only hassle and aggravation.

COmp agree with everyone - this is only a theoretical option. Ditto re any boat options - we saw a baot while at LP and saw a very unhappy bunch of passengers who had been sitting on hard wooden seats for 12 hours. Suggest you look at the BKk Air air pass for the region if you want a cost effective option.

Trip by car is OUT!. We have to decide if it is worth adding two days to fly to Luang Prabang and tour area.We will have been in Chiangi Mai-3days-Siem Reap-3days, Bangkok 2days(third visit) and Phuket 4days then on to Malysia for 8 days. So maybe enough is enough.

Luang Prabang is a place to take slowly. I'd suggest saving it for your next trip.
