Day trip from HCMC: ChuChi tunnels or Mekong Delta?

I am in the intial stages of planning a trip to Vietnam next May. I know that HCMC does not get as high marks from Fodorites as Hanoi, so we will only spend 1-2 days in HCMC. I was thinking one day to see the city and then a side trip the next day, either the Mekong Delta or the ChuChi tunnels. I have heard the tunnels are pretty touristy, but would appreciate feedback on either excursion.
Thanks

If you have2 day in HCMC, first day go to Mekong delta, back to city for shopping and sightseeing, because HCMC is never sleeping at night. Cu Chi tunnel is half day is enough.
One day can enough for you to visit both if you wake early,

You can do both in one day. The tunnels are a bit touristy but still worth going to for an interesting history lesson.

It's so weird for me to think of the tunnels as touristy. They sure weren;t in 1992 when I was there and one of the highlights of my trip.

Gloria, when we went, we were the only people there so it's not touristy in the sense that busloads of people are there. It's touristy in the sense that they made the tunnels wider so tourists can get down them without getting stuck, though we were told that it happens on occassion.

Oh, ok. They had made one tunnel wider when I was there. The others were all original.
