While internet cafes are open, a lot of sites are always blocked. At first they did not seem to realize how much aid was ready to come in. And since I assume that internet is less available outside of rangoon those victims still don't realize it -- although no one would be surprised by the government's reaction.

This experience has made me even more positive than I was before that going to Burma was absolutely the right thing to do. These people must know that people know they exist and the more contacts they have the better. And here is an example where because of outside individual contact at least a few people might get real help.

I got an email today from Nyi Nyi. Supplies seem to be available but at a high price. I would not be at all surpised if the army/gov takes a lot of the aid and sells it.

I also reached my Burmese friend who lives here and she confirmed that no matter how much they are trying the NGOs are not getting supplies to the people. A huge amount goes to the government. Right now getting money directly into people's hands so they can buy water etc or buy bus tickets and leave the area completely is the best way to help.
