Congrats, Ken!! Hey, when will you be back in BKK? I'll be there a couple more times this year... last 10 days of Oct + a few days in the beginning of November, and then again for the holidays in December/January.

You'll get six SWUs for reaching 100,000 EQMs and two more if you get to 150,000, and two more at 200,000, ...
We discussed the "rewards" program (I forget the name) where you are given a reward for reaching a mileage level. Like at 75,000 (I think) you were able to give Premier Associate status to Brad. I wonder if you might have a "reward" of extra SWU or SWUs at 125,000 EQMs?
I know you are new to 1K and so am suggesting ways that you can plan to use your SWUs. My suggestion of using a SWU to save miles is one that you would not necessarily take.
Case1: Suppose you get 6 SWUs and plan on going to BKK three times next year (after January). Those three trips (on W fares) will use them up. If you use one on your Jan 4 return from BKK then you will come up short on your third trip. You'd have to get a higher M fare and use miles to upgrade or fly in coach.
Now that you were "forced" into getting an M fare you can take advantage of the ability to upgrde with miles and save a SWU. Save the SWU for the lower W fares that you will fly next year.
Case 2: Suppose you reach 150,000 EQMs and get a total of 8 SWUs. Suppose you will use 6 of them for three BKK trips. Will you be able to use the other two on another trip next year?
If yes, then you want to upgrade your Dec-Jan trip with miles to save the SWUs for that fourth trip.
If no, you won't be able to use all 8 SWUs next year, then you could ask for an early deposit of a SWU or two and use them for your Dec outbound and Jan return.
Does that make sense? If not, here it is simply:
If you are taking three or four international trips on UA metal next year then you should really consider saving your SWUs for those trips, when you can buy W fares. Use miles, because you can, with the M fares.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't think I'll make 150,000, if I've figured it out correctly... but I have to wait and see, once those Dbl EQMs start showing up in my account. It will be close, I know.
I will probably make 3-4 BKK trips once again next year, and also two trips to Europe (but we always fly Swiss to Zurich). I look forward to those cheaper upgrade prices to BKK!!
Happy travels!
