I really wish this question came out a couple of months ago, before I was booked on the train. Bathrooms I can handle, cockroaches crawling on me at night is a little too much for me.

peg - I've ridden a fair number of Indian trains and never seen a cockroach, so you may well get lucky.

I've seen cockroached AND mice in well-established restaurants in NY--and roaches in other places throughout the world. They are a hardy breed!!

I've seen roaches on virtually all trains I've been on in India - fact of life there. Best to tune them out of your mind...

Last time in North India,2008 my partner remarked there were no flies,I commented maybe they cant survive in India??
Surprising considering the amount of Poo on the beaches, roads and in the fields,.
Maybe the flies all come directly to Australia, some sort of unnatural freaky direct link?
Here in Oz,we live with the wretched things, and in the real bush if you are outdoors,ya gotta eat them with your food there are so many, cant shooo them away, too many, you would starve if you tried to eat a spoonfull of food without any flies around.
Ill check out South India in 6 days time,be there 5th June 2011,maybe they are all down there, perish the thought!
