City Hotel in Xian

I have just received a quote back from City Hotel Xian for $36USD. We are only staying one night. Has anyone stayed there and is the hotel within walking distance to the Muslim Quarter. Is it clean? thanks for an feedback you can offer - gAyle

I have never heard of this hotel, but I went to www.google.com (the world's best search engine), and found the following links:

This one has a picture of a room:

http://www.chinaetravel.com/hotel/h400.html

This one says it's within walking distance of the Bell Tower:

http://www.sinohotel.com/xian/city/

Good luck! My experience with even mid-range hotels in China ($75 - 100 US) is that the cleanliness, staff helpfullness/level of English, noise level, and smell will all be average to poor, but certainly not awful.

I mention this only to let you know that it's not like Thailand, where a $50 hotel room might be equivalent to a $150+ hotel on a beach in the states. In China, a $36 hotel is about the equivalent of a $36 hotel in a big city in the states . . . only safer!

I can't imagine what you will get for $36. Good luck. A side note: I liked our hotel in Xi'an because it was the only hotel in five cities that had beds that were not ROCK HARD.

Wow, $36! That's too much. You can stay at Hyatt for $15, American breakfast.

I take it the $15 rate at the Hyatt is some kind of a joke!!! If not, I certainly would like to hear the particulars.
