Circle Pacific Air Travel

I'm wondering if anyone has used the Circle Pacific tickets that are available and your experience with them. I'm specifically looking to travel from LA to Auckland to Indonesia and then back to LA and am considering purchasing one of these types of tix for the air travel. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well!

We traveled on a Circle Pacific ticket from San Francisco - Hong Kong - Bangkok - Singapore - Auckland - Christchurch - Sydney - Honolulu - Vancouver.

We traveled on the CP2 Fare (the bigger mileage bucket - 26,000 miles) and bit the bullet for Business Class - it was about $7000 Canadian each and worth every penny.

It's hard to book and there are a lot of little rules and regs - I used a consultant who charged us a fee (around $350) and he really worked hard for that! I'll post his contact information if you're interested.

Another suggestion - the posters on the Star Alliance Board at flyertalk.com are also a wealth of information - here's a link to that board

you should read all the rules and restrictions carefully first and decide if the cities you're interested in are even included first. there are a LOT of restrictions and extra fees for additional cities etc.

this page is helpful too to see where discount airlines fly, which is all over Asia.

The Circle Pacific and Around the World fares are a great deal, but as others mentioned, they are complex to book. They are only worthwhile if you are making a number of stops that are "in-network."

Consultant is:

Wayne Tan
[email protected] OR
[email protected]

(Can't remember which email works best - use both)

He's usually in Vancouver but tickets out of a travel agent in Phoenix - that was a major bonus for me as Air Canada's US exchange rate on the CP*2 fare was usurious and Wayne could ticket me on United. (as Kathie mentioned these fare rules are byzantine and most airlines won't deal directly with a customer).

He also did the Bangkok Air Discovery Air Pass portion for us (including the smart and free suggestion to sign up for their frequent flyer program to double our luggage allowance).

He is also the Moderator of the Cathay Pacific board on flyertalk.com, which is where I found him after a false start with a local Toronto TA who didn't realize how difficult the CP fares were.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I need to look into it further as well as check out airfare if I were to book each leg separately (I know this is also quite expensive though).
