China in April
I have been reading the posts about how hot and humid it is in the summer. We were planning on going to Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an and on a Yangzse River cruise the end of March, first of April. What is the norm for that time?

Thanks..... Sue

Bonjour Sue
We were in China from the 16 of march to april 14 this year. In Beijing and Xian the weather was around 10-15C. They had big sand storms in the northern part of the country and it was very windy in Beijing. I would suggest that you bring a light "overcoat" for this part of the country at that time of year.
daniel

Beijing suffered the worst sand storm in history this past spring; the worst day was 3/17, on that day you couldn't possibly stay outside. However, not every year is like that. In the begining of April last year when I was there for 3 days, weather was just fine; in fact, the entire spring of last year was a fairly good one. If you are with a tour, you have no choice for arranging your itinerary, otherwise, you might want to take Beijing as your last destination. I believe in early April the chances for major sand storms are quite small.

Try to pack lightly. The chances you run into some real cold days are small and besides, you can always buy colths from the local shops or even inside of your hotel if you need to. They are very cheap.

The norm of weather tempearture for Beijing and Xi'an and on the river is similar to New Yor in early/middle April. Shanghai is warmer.
