China Cuisine
Hello Everyone!
I will be traveling in China in April, covering the main cities, Hong Kong, Guilin, Shanghai & Beijing. I have to eat carefully because I have high cholesterol, and was wondering if there would be any sort of low fat options..ie steamed..?
Also, can someone tell me what the weather is like in April?
Thanks!

For weather, check each city you are visiting at www.weatherbase.com for historical data on weather patterns.

I've been only to HK, Beijing and Shanghai and you can easily find steamed options at restaurants in each of those cities. Many if not most restaurants have picture menus and some kind of English translation.. The vegetables are marvelous and you can find fish on most menus.
I was in shirtsleeves/light sweater in Shanghai in the first half of April last year. It was colder in Beijing and sometimes I wore a light winter jacket. The Great Wall might be windy so you could bring a hat..

Chinese cooking tends to be bland but rises in fiery spiciness as you move inland. I wouldn't worry about cholesterol content -- we found most food in China was low in fat, almost no dairy products, no cheese or creamy sauces. They kept us on the go so much that we actually lost weight during our three-week stay.
