Check out itinerary - is it doable for S.E Asia in 3 wks?
Hello,
we are planning the itinerary below & leaving around Christmas time. Does anyone think this much travelling about is doable? As well, we have not booked flights or obtained VISAs, can we get flights booked and obtain VISAs while we are in Bangkok? How much time would it take to obtain the VISAs/countries and how much does it cost in US curreny or Thai bhat?
any help would be greatly appreciated!
• Day 1 - 2 BangkokThailand) Day 3-4 – go to Phuket(Thailand) •
Day 5-7 Kuala Lampur –
• Day 8-10 Singapore –
• Day 11-15 Vietnam –
• Day 16-18 Cambodia -
• Day 18-21 Bangkok (leave to come back)

Are you serious? You're going in a couple of weeks and you don't have plane tickets? I leave next Friday, for Bangkok, and got my ticket back in April...Los Angeles-Bangkok. Hope you have lots of flexibility of airlines and lots of extra cash. As far as the itinerary...I think it's much too much. Have you ever been to Southeast Asia before? Things don't move that fast and how will you ever get over the jetlag moving at that pace? Your schedule, to me, is a very European type of travel schedule...If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium... The first time I went to Southeast Asia, back in the 90s, I did Singapore/Bali/Chiangmai/and Bangkok in 3 weeks which was fine. I, personally, absolutely would not do more than 4 stops in 3 weeks. I assume you're possibly coming from Europe as I noticed that you've spelled the word,"travelling" with two "Ls"...or maybe Australia or New Zealand. A close European friend e-mailed me 3 weeks ago and said his travel agent in (northern) Europe had been trying for two weeks straight to get him on a flight to Bangkok and everything was sold out. So, he won't be making it to Bangkok this month. I suggested to him to try to fly out of another close by European country and he's had no luck with that either. Europeans are trying to escape the dreadful weather this time of the year so planes are booked solid. So, if you're coming from Europe...good luck. Happy Travels!

First you better get your tickets and visas now and don't be surprised if you can't get a flight. Second, I'd shoot myself before doing a trip like this. You'll see nothing but airports. I'd suggest you go to thailand, singapore and siem reap and leave it at that. But that's assuming you can get flights and hotels. I'm going at the end of Dec and booked my ticket last March.

Pause and consider what you want to do/see/experience this trip. Since you appear to have three weeks on the ground, choose not more than 4 locations. Right now you have six locations, and two of them are whole countries!
Do you have your flights in and out of Bangkok?

it can be done but all you will do is stand in visa lines and travel back and forth to airports....there might be time once per day for a hamby at mcdonalds or a chicken on the run from C. sanders....
visas at embassies can take time...i have heard of people spending all day in bkk arranging for one to other asian countries....not sure where you are from so do not know if you need a visa for any of these countries...
in 3 weeks i would do some thailand (bkk, phuket and maybe up north)....then i would do either cambodia or vietnam, but not both...i would scratch the southern areas or do them instead...
every time you change locations in thailand it will take at least 1/2 day to 3/4 of a day....to another country it takes all day sometimes....
flights can be had in bangkok, but it is a very busy time and you will face some disappointments probably....
go with an open mind and see what you can get or get on line now with thai air or bangkok air and see what can be done....its the bussiest time of the year in thailand and the most expensive...
what about hotels....they might be in short supply in certain places, especially in tourist areas over christmas

Do-able, perhaps, but deeply, deeply inadvisable. It sounds like something you might do as an eccentric wager - move over, Phineas Fogg.
I agree that you need to think about what you're trying to achieve. This itinerary is short-changing all the countries concerned except boring Singapore (no point leaving Changi airport, as the rest of the city looks much the same).
Really, if you're still intent on doing this you'd better put yourself in the hands of a good travel agent who might (for a price) be able to sort out a few inconvenient details like airline and hotel bookings, visas, and vaccinations. Then there's land travel and ... on second thoughts, I'm wondering if this really is a serious enquiry. If it is, please accpt my apologies for being so short.

I really should apologise, mricci - you're faster than a speeding bullet, mate. It's only 5 days since you posted a query about which of two hotels in India you should choose, and yesterday you posted a critique of one of the restaurants! I take my hat off to you - perhaps you should throw in Indonesia and Sri Lanka while you're at it.
