Car in Bali and Day trips to Islands?

My wife and I will be in Bali for 10 days and are planning 2 days in Nusa Dua, 4 days in Seminyak, and 4 days in Ubud. We have 2 questions:

1. Should we rent a car or simply hire a driver for day trips and to get to and from locations?

2. Is it possible to do a day trip to one of the islands from Seminyak?

Thanks

Hire a car and driver. You really don't want to drive yourselves on Bali.

What island do you want to visit? What do you want to do there?

j, you don't want to drive in Bali. The rules of the road are arbitrary at best and there's a lot to see long the way. Drivers with cars or cars with drivers and guides are relatively inexpensive and a good guide can add so much to your understanding of the culture.

Bali is of course an island itself and you don't really need to leave it to experience island life. Having said that there are several outfits that offer day trips with an outlying island as a destination or just an opportunity to get out on the water.

I would not rent a car, I definitely would get a driver/guide. And make sure its a driver/guide. Nothing worse than having a driver who knows nothing and just drops you off or who cannot speak English very well. We have made 3 trips to Bali (just got back in March) and have used Merta all 3 times. Excellent, reliable, knows all, very reasonable, and most of all trustworthy. [email protected]
