Buying a Rolex watch in Switzerland
Recently, I bought a Rolex watch in Bucherer - Luzern, List price CHF6,500, after vat & discount, it cost around CHF 5928 for an Explorer II (white face) model no. 16570, convert to Sing $ is around $7,900.
Upon return to Singapore, I have checked this model price by Rolex Singapore it cost S$8,645 with no discount by Rolex Shop, however, another shop a Rolex dealer with the same price S$8,645 but offer a discount of 15% so it cost S$7,348.25. difference is about S$550.
Why Rolex Shop can't give discount, but his dealer can?
So it means it is not cheap to buy in Switzerland even with Tax rebate (VAT) & discount?
or may be Rolex in Switzerland is more geniune with all original parts manufactured & assemble in Swiss.

It has been my understanding that for some years Rolex, and most luxury goods makers, have attempted to keep prices constant worldwide. The do not let their dealers give much of a discount; and 15% may be the max. The idea is that a Louis Vuitton bag in Tokyo should cost the same as in London and as in LA. May have to do with supporting sales equally in all places in order to get shops to stock their goods.
People used to go to Asia to buy Rolxes on the theory that they were cheaper, but I don't think that is the case any longer. As you have found, they are not cheaper in Switzerland, even without tax, but I don't think they have ever been cheaper there.
That is why it is now so important to do your price homework BEFORE you leave on a trip.

I have no intention to buy a Rolex in Switzerland, but most of my group mates bought it at Interlaken, some in Bern, & I bought it at the last stop at Bucherer - Lusern. anyway I have Message my friend & they told me is about that range, so on that day it was my birthday, so for memory & it was in Switzerland, I decided to buy one even I got doubt that is is not cheaper in Swiss.

Another issue is currency fluctuations, though probably isn't a factor for the OP. Watch makers try to make prices the same all around the globe, but I think prices are set only once (or twice?) a year? If Swiss Franc getting stronger since the price was set, it'll get more expensive buying in Switzerland.
But the Singapore Dollar has been very strong, though has given back some against the CHF since summer. So, who knows.

Absolutely unfair!!! Expensive luxury goods MUST be discounted - certainly. Not only that, ALL luxury goods MUST be counterfeited to satisfy the Faux phoney pretenders. You poor darling having overspent $550 to own a watch so that you can pretend to be wealthy - to be the phoniest of the phoney. We share your pain brother - how terrible for you. Nest time, but a Hair Shirt to go with your phoney watch! I once heard a genuine mafia boss thug in Montreal in the mobs favourite breakfast restaurant complaining that he had looked at a Rolls Royce on the weekend, but that that company was so stupid that they wanted a huge amount of money to buy the car - he said they 'priced themselves out of the market.' One of the funniest statements I ever heard.
