Cyansiam - One thing I forgot to mention is that Gangtey Lodge does your laundry (free) once during your stay. That was a god send because I didn't bring enough stuff. I know any hotel will do your laundry but frankly it irritates me to pay $5 for a t shirt and $3 for a pair of socks. So I don't.
We spent two full days in Bangkok after the trip...and it was fun to hang at the pool and have some great food. Too lazy to write up much but the Sukothai has really taken their game up a notch. Our room was great ( maybe they have redone rooms since we were there a couple years ago...my husband has Corp rate there which is why we picked it) I was chuckling about their definition of a breakfast buffet. It was a very very elaborate spread...honestly I have been to the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago for their holiday brunches which are fantastic....and that is exactly what the Sukothai Hotel was dishing up every morning ( included in our room rate ) There certainly are a lot of definitions for the word buffet.
Anyway.. it was hot and sunny and the perfect end to the trip. We are now home...my cat is sleeping with the snow leopard toy I bought at Uma in Paro. All is well.

I have never got into the habit of using hotel laundries...used it once in India, everything came back wonderfully clean and pressed so very happy until we saw the charges!
Haven't stopped in BKK for years as we have to leave Thailand every 3 months so always head to KL, Penang or Singapore plus you need to get away from Cartoon Land for the sake of our sanity! I have heard it is much better for shopping now but I hate the traffic.
Far too hot in Phuket at the moment....we are all praying for rain, the wells are dying up, plants dying and cobras visiting looking for water!

Great trip report. Kencho sounds great. I put up a post with a potential revised itinerary if you have any thoughts (you too Craig as you commented on my earlier one which I think we've revised for the better). Agree on the Amans they just seemed kind of sterile. We're planning on the one at Bumthang since only luxe option but otherwise planning Uma or Gangtey Lodge. Appreciate the care in writing.
