best-unique hotels in Thailand

Does anyone have recommendations on nice and unique hotels in Thailand. We are staying at the Oriental in Bangkok, but have not decided on options in Chiang Mai or the islands (Phuket, Samui or another). Thanks.

I suggest the Dusit Rajavadee Hotel in Krabi (transfer from Phuket by car about 2 hours). Its surroundings are spectacular and it has one of the best beaches you can find in Thailand. It is a luxury resort but not more expensive than the Oriental. They organize trips to nearby islands such as Ko Phi Phi or Ko Poda which are very much worth visiting, too.

this one is not on an island, but dusit polo resort and hotel in hua hin was wonderful. they have a polo theme in decoration and staff outfits and have even an own horse stable to complete the theme. service was very good, there are several restaurants in thé hotel and sea view (at least limited) from every room. hua hin is situated 200 km/130 miles south from bangkok. hotel is 5 miles from hua hin village, which is quiet nice place with good sea food and thai restaurants.

Oriental Hotel is a good choice, especially the health spa across the hotel which is one of the best in asia. Try their "papaya wrap", very unusual. If you have $$$$$ I suggest the "Aman Resort"in Phuket.Very very exclusive. The Banyan Tree and others try to copy but no comparison. However, not a resort with kids. When you are in Bangkok, you must try "sharksfin restaurant", I'll give you the address if you need and "The Sukothai Hotel" ask them to show you the Garden Suite has a very good Thai restaurant "Celaldon". Have fun.
