Best beaches in Japan
Hey all,
Going to be visiting Japan for the next month, and just wondering on where the best places are to spend some time at the beach. We are travelling between Tokyo and Fukuoka (possibly as far as Beppu) with our rail pass, any suggestions?

Okinawa??
Actually, Japanese beaches are pretty sorry...They tend to be heavily armored with concrete (to prevent storm damage), dirty or very crowded. My husband surfed near Kamakura one time and was grossed out by the water condition.
Maybe someone else has found some good ones?

In 12 years I haven't found a beach that hasn't been a huge disappointment. Concrete, trash, dirty water, crowds if it's swimming season. Okinawa might have the best beaches. But I wouldn't spend valuable vacation time looking for a beach in Japan. Mountain areas or countryside would be nicer.
