There is a reasonable one in the arcade of the Meridien President Hotel. It is always best to have a model suit for them to copy from.

If you are coming from the US, you should be aware that in general you can get better value and a much better finished suit at sales and outlet stores than you can find in Bangkok in general.

In Thailand 99% of the tailor shops DO NOT tailor. They only measure you -sell you what 'they' want you to buy then they send the measurements off to the "group" sewing shop utilized by many many tailor shops for sewing. There is NO tailoring. Buy it in your country, you'll get a better 'tailor' job.

I have to vehemently (but respectfully) disagree with what the previous posters have said. Certainly, there are chop shops that offer 3 suits and 5 shirts for US $100 that probably don't offer "real" tailoring, but we had a wonderful experience. We went into one random shop in a street full of tailor shops and got a great deal.

I chose a copies of a Jill Saunder and an Ann Taylor suit, with wonderful fabrics, and got the following: 2 suit jackets, 2 pairs of trousers, 2 dresses, and 2 skirts, all for US $525. They did a FABULOUS tailoring job. I get SO many complements on the suits, and they fit me like a glove. They were absolutely tailored exactly like I asked. We worked from a magazine picture, but I fully customized everything, taking pockets away here, changing a neckline there, etc. The place I went to was great, but they did have a rather limited fabric selection. It's called New Royal Fashions. Their website is www.newroyalfashions.com, although I have never been able to get on the site. I have the following phone numbers for them: 6511 466, 2536 067, and 651 2216.

Do bring pictures of the suits you want; the selections there aren't great.

My husband had 3 suits tailor made at Hong Kong Harry's in the Mall adjoining the Royal Orchid Sheraton. The suits were Thai Silk, Wool and Cashmere blend. The tailoring was fabulous and the cost, I believe with a shirt or two, was $500 for all 3. I'm sure those who have had bad experiences went to the shops that offer "too good to be true" prices. This was 3 years ago and the suits have held up well. I would recommend them highly.
