Where are you looking for room rates? Several sites I recommend are agoda.com booking.com and sawasdee.com Do get a rate that includes breakfast.
Centre Point Silom is another good recommendation.

Kathie - I use tripadvisor, which lists a bunch of different sites including the ones you mentioned. Chatrium and Anantara are both close to $200 usd per night for our dates.
Right now I've booked the ibis because it has a cancellation option.
I'll keep checking for any drops. Could just be that it is over Christmas.

Oh, so sorry I had forgotten you will be there over Xmas. Prices often double over the holidays. But do keep an eye on prices, as they may drop if the hotels are not full.
Booking the Ibis with free cancellation is a good idea. It buys you some time.

We stayed at center point silom and would not hesitate to stay there again.
The hotel is conveniently located by the river and sky rail. The breakfast was the best we had on a three week trip to Thailand.

The Ibis Riverside is a nice, budget hotel. Reasonable sized rooms, great showers and a good breakfast buffet. We spent 4 nights there earlier this year. The only problem is that it does not have its own ferry across the river which makes it a little time consuming to get to the main sights. It is a 15 min walk to either the BTS on that side of the river, walk across the bridge 20 mins or get the nearby public ferry (we waited ages for that!).
