Bali-political unrest and safety

We're traveling to Bali in April. REading about the political unrest and terrorism in Indonesia. Anyone have any information re. if and how this is effecting Bali? Any worries re. safety?

Don
Although it is not peaceful in Indonesia, but in Bali everything remains calm and still welcome tourists. My friends have just returned and enjoyed the place. Go on as your plan.

Welcome to asia.

Although Bali may be safe, I would still suggest you check out the U.S. State Department Travel Warnings at http://travel.state.gov/indonesia_warning.html, this will be the best and most accurate source of information.

BRAD

We are just back from Bali and can report that there is no apparent problem there. No so on Lombok though. That would involve some risk I believe. Balinese seem to be rather aloof politically from the rest of the country - likely because the rest of the country is overwhelmingly muslim.

I have been concerned about safety also, as I just heard that people living in asia have become wary of traveling to indonesia, including bali. i'm glad to hear that so far no one has seen any problems...

I stayed in Bali for two weeks in November. I was in Bali when the Muslim fundamentalists were going into hotels in parts of Java looking for westerners.

There was no sign of any problem like that in Bali which is 95% Hindu. Java is the neighboring island directly west of Bali and Lombock is the neighboring island just east of Bali.

If you wish an up to the minute report ask at the BaliTravelforum.com or at
-Bali.Tripod.com.

In fact you can register at either site and at the BaliTravelForum you can ask and get fresh reports. At-Bali.tripod you can join and become a part of the group for current fresh and very helpful reports from serious Bali travelers.

Hope this helps.

Michael from New York

Hi there!

We just returned from Bali last week on March 18 th and happy to say that there is no problems in Bali. You have to understand that the problems are happening in the Muslim areas...Bali is a Hindu Island eventhough it belongs to Indonesia.

One cannot guarantee safety in any part of the world, even here in Toronto where we live...so go ahead and enjoy Bali...it truly is beautiful and exotic....we too were concerned about our safety but we just left our fears behind and had fun...there's nothing you can do to prevent violence...if you are still worried and concerned then don't visit Bali.

By the way, check wthe US warning on the political situation in Indonesia and also with the Indonesian consulate and talk to them...I did...they were honest and did mention of areas that we should not visit...they mentionned to us that Bali is very safe as it is isolated from the rest of Indonesia and the population is mostly Hindus.

Anyway I hope you visit Bali...don't miss out on this Island
