BALI Honeymoon February 2014

Hi, me and my fiancee are planning to visit BALI for our honeymoon in February.

We are thinking of spending 7-10 days. However we are confused between UBUD, LOMBOK, JIMBARAN and would like to choose any of the two.

We would like to relax, pristine beaches, good spa, water sports. We are interested in some night life during our stay, aswell

I have heard bali beaches are not so great, so kind of confused.

Look forward to first hand experiences.

the beaches are ok, not fab like some other parts of the world..

sanur has very nice beaches
the beaches north of kuta are also nice

ubud is inland and the cultural heart of bali.. I love alam shanti hotel there. gangga room especially.

the new Marriott on the west coast looks nice..

buy a guidebook for help..

Lombok is another island and less developed.. qunci villas there are very nice.

Jimbaran/Seminayak & Ubud
Jimbaran/Seminayak & Lombok

Please suggest ....

Your trip will be less complicated if you stick to one island: Bali. I'd choose one beach area and a place inland near Ubud. Avoid Nusa Dua and Kuta beaches.

Hi Kathie,
yes you are right...I meant either seminayak or jimbaran.

And then team it up with Ubud or Lombok....?

Lombok is a different island. I'd suggest you stick with Bali.

Either Seminayak or Jimbaran plus Ubud would be a great combination.

As mentioned Ubud is inland and the culture and arts center of Bali. It's where you see the lush tropical scenery and terraced rice paddies that Bali is famous for. If this appeals to you, then plan on splitting your time between Ubud and one of the beaches.

Lombok is a separate island. The beaches are very nice, but it takes most of the day to get there from Bali, and there's not much in the way of nightlife. With 7 days I would give Lombok a pass and stay on Bali. With 10 days you could conceivably do Lombok, Ubud and Seminyak, but it would entail more traveling than I'd recommend.

Jimbaran has a nice swimming beach, but a less developed community than the beaches a little farther north on the west Coast. Many of the resorts and villas in Jimbaran are built on the cliffs overlooking the bay. They have access to the beach, but it's a climb down -- and up.

The beach that stretches north from Kuta to Legian to Seminyak is long and wide. It's an active, lively beach, not pristine by any means, but big enough so that it doesn't feel crowded.

The activities are primarily surfing, body boarding and playing in the waves. If you're looking for other water sports, like boating, jet skiing, kite boarding you'll have to look at the east coast. For snorkling or scuba, you have to go much farther north.

Both Seminyak and Kuta have a lot of restaurants, shops, spas and clubs. Kuta is rowdier, Seminyak more sophisticated. In both places there are resorts right on the beach and villas somewhat inland. Everything is within walking distance or a short taxi ride.

HI All,
I have thought of 7 nights in Bali of which 3 nights defienitely in Ubud area...I am booking the Four Seasons Hotel there...
for the balance 4 night I am now confused....between LOMBOK & JIMBARAN/NUSA DUA/SEMINAYAK

Lombok seems a much secluded place and better beaches for a honeymoon in comparison to crowded other areas like jimbaran/nusa dua

Also, how does ne travel to Lombok if landing at Denpsar Airport

Please post your views on the same

You can fly to Lombok from Denpasar. But if you only have 7 nights total, stay on Bali. Flights to Lombok can be delayed or cancelled. Opt for Seminayak or Jimbaran. Avoid Nusa Dua - sterile tourist enclave.

If you're looking for something along the lines of the Four Seasons in Lombok, I'd suggest the Oberoi. I don't know if "secluded" is the right word for Lombok's beaches, but they are sandy and good swimming beaches. Non-resort restaurants are limited. I'd agree, though, that the trip back and forth to Lombok would be tight with just four days.

The southern beaches are developed but it's still lowrise and tropical in feeling. most of the honeymoon popular resorts are set back or up from the beach in large gardens which give feeling of seclusion. The beach and resort community is there when you want it; you can retreat to your garden or villa when you want privacy.

There are several beach resorts that are on the same level as the Four Seasons in Sayan. If you want to combine your beach stay with some night life then I'd look at Seminyak. The Legian would be my first choice.

There are also many, many villas in Seminyak -- and all over Bali -- which offer privacy and luxury. Look at the Laksmana group to start.

In Jimbaran there's the other Four Seasons. This is built on the hill side over a small beach. A beautiful resort but not the best beach.

On the eastcoast both Nusa Dua and Sanur have long sandy beaches, but not much in the way of nightlife. In Sanur there's a brand new Regent. In Nusa Dua Amanusa, St. Regis and other, larger, five stars.

If you're going to book places like the Fours Seasons make sure to book through a Virtuoso or Four Seasons Preferred Travel Agent. You'l pay the same rate but get a pile of inclusions a full breakfast, possibly an upgraded room and a nice amenity something like Lunch or a spa treatment. It's very much worth it, plus the agent will convey it's your honeymoon which won't hurt.

You'll get good advice on the specific hotels (including places like the Datai and Four SEasons on Langkawi) over at the luxury hotel forum on Flyertalk.

I'm not sure why you would spent four nights at a beach in Langkawi before going to Bali. Langkawi is just beach - no cultural pursuits to speak of. If you have additional time, add it to Bali,

Ironicly you will there when myself and my family will be in Bali. This will be our 4th time to Bali and we do many private tours with a very trusted local driver. We see all the sights and we take him to sights he has never been too. If you want my daily tour / sites plan + the driver's name (phone and email) you can contact me at [email protected] (FYI - I am Canadian). I don't know your budget plan to suggest a hotel but if you want nightlife you stay in the Kuta area which includes Seminyak..... but Seminyak is much more expensive. We use or to book our hotels. We do tons of snorkeling and sites. We can give you tons of info if you want - I'd suggest flying to Yogakarta to see the Borobuder Temple ( 1 hour flight) as a day trip (out at 6 am - back by midnight) worth every penny!!

We just returned yesterday from our honeymoon in Bali (12 days). We stayed in Ubud (Chedi Club), Lovina (Damai), East Bali (Amankila) and Jimbaran (Four Seasons). None of the beaches in Bali were particularly stunning, but we enjoyed the beach at Amankila the most. The beach at Four Seasons Jimbaran was just okay. I would definitely lower your beach expectations for your trip.
